The first drawing for “Santa sharing cookies with Rudolph” did not look quite like it. I started with the idea that Rudolph, who does the heavy lifting, deserves cookies. But perhaps I went too far at first:
While I was carried away rendering Rudolph and the nest-like bowl with cookies, I was neglecting Santa. But soon I realized that it looked like Rudolph was dumping Santa, having forgotten about its comrade while rushing for the treats.
So I abandoned the first sketch, and drew the scene again. This time, I made Santa and Rudolph face each other, and made it Santa that gives Rudolph the treats.

Poor Santa. Dumped or giving up cookies. The reindeer wins! Either way, this gave me a good laugh this morning!

Exactly – it’s so hard to achieve a proper balance!

I like both, but Santa being dumped by Rudolph is unexpected and thus, compelling. What do you use to color? I like the dreamy quality (colored version).

Haha I see. Novelty pays off! I colored it in the same way as “A Whole New World” – on Galaxy Tab S3 with Sketchbook Pro, with its virtual pastels.
