Best of 2019

Last year, I drew with dip pens and sketched more on site. I also tried weaving in stories, be it on science or others.

Next year, I’d like to try one-cut cartoons, starting from re-drawing classics, and hopefully at some point weaving in more from my day job, neuroscience and cognitive science. I know this part of my resolution is the same as last year’s. I found it difficult to start from vacuum, and that’s why I want to start from reinterpreting existing works.

What’s your new year’s resolution?

    1. I like the letting go part. I’m also feeling that it’s important to distinguish between persistence and inertia. If I feel like I’m repeating an activity (for me, drawing without a particular story) just because I haven’t made an effort to try something I want to ultimately do (drawing with a story), I then think it’s due to inertia rather than persistence. I’m trying to let go of it by taking baby steps in the direction I want.

      1. You are so right about inertia vs. persistence. There is a point when the comfort of a routine or an image that is returned to becomes confining. And it can be hard to know when that is or if it is a bad thing (sometimes it is not).
